Stephen founded Maddrix in 2012 as a technology and cyber security professional services company to help the U.S. government, national security, critical infrastructure, and private sector organizations protect their critical data from targeted attacks, advanced threat actors, and malware.
Stephen has more than 25 years of law enforcement, counterintelligence, and network security experience, with 14 years focused on investigating nation state and other targeted attacks on U.S. Intelligence Community, U.S. Government, Department of Defense, Critical Infrastructure and Fortune 100 networks.
Prior to founding Maddrix, Stephen spent seven years at Booz Allen Hamilton, where he started and led the firm’s global Advanced Persistent Threat team, which helped the U.S. government, Intelligence Community, Department of Defense, and Critical Infrastructure organizations in the U.S., Europe, and other locations respond to and mitigate advanced network attacks.
Stephen’s team also provided digital forensics support to Intelligence Community organizations supporting criminal and counterintelligence investigations. During this time, he worked on Air Force One, briefed multiple U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives Committees, individual members of Congress, and Presidential appointees on cases he supported on behalf of his government clients and strategic cyber security issues.
Stephen has personally trained hundreds of federal criminal and counterintelligence special agents at the DoD’s Cyber Investigations Training Academy (DCITA), and developed and delivered specialized cyber investigations training to U.S. Intelligence Community organizations. Stephen designed the framework for Stevenson University’s Master’s Degree program in digital forensics, and has guest lectured at many colleges and universities including the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, University of Texas, University of Maryland, John’s Hopkins University, and others.
Stephen was trained at the Department of Defense Cyber Investigations Training Academy, United States Attorneys Office (National Advocacy Center), Federal Bureau of Investigation, Guidance Software, Baltimore City Police Academy, Eastern Shore Criminal Justice Academy, Maryland State Police, AccessData, SANS, and other government, law enforcement, and commercial training organizations. Stephen has given hundreds of cyber security presentations and regularly presents at government and private security conferences and symposiums.
Stephen holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from Towson University, and is a qualified expert witness.
